The Opportunity:

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the English department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve student outcomes and raise standards across all key stages.
- Support and mentor staff to enhance professional development and performance.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to shape school-wide strategies and initiatives.
- Deliver effective teaching and learning that inspires students and meets the needs of all learners.
- Engage with the wider school community to promote the value of English and literacy.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of departmental initiatives and interventions.
- Ensure that the curriculum is aligned with the school’s vision and educational goals.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in teaching and leading in a secondary school setting.
- Strong subject knowledge in English and literacy across all key stages.
- Demonstrated ability to drive up standards and improve student outcomes.
- Experience in departmental leadership and management.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and improvement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of the school’s vision and context.
Preferred
- Experience with IRIS and regular drop-in feedback systems.
- Experience in a school with a strong focus on pastoral care and student wellbeing.
