As the Director of Learning - Social Sciences, you will lead and inspire a passionate and dedicated team to deliver a challenging and dynamic curriculum that supports student achievement and personal growth. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Social Sciences department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement a curriculum that is engaging, challenging, and aligned with the school’s educational vision.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support to ensure strong outcomes in Social Sciences subjects.
  • Work closely with the leadership team to drive continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning.
  • Support and mentor staff to enhance professional development and ensure consistent delivery of excellence.
  • Promote extracurricular opportunities that enrich students’ learning experiences and develop their personal skills.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration with parents, carers, and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of school-wide strategies and initiatives that support student achievement and well-being.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading a Social Sciences department within a school setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Social Sciences, including Religious Studies, Sociology, Psychology, and Criminology.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive improvement and achieve high standards in teaching and learning.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment practices.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.

Preferred

  • Experience working within a multi-academy trust or similar collaborative educational environment.
  • Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme and related qualifications.
  • Experience with evidence-based pedagogy and professional development programmes.
  • Strong track record in supporting student achievement and inclusion.
