The Opportunity:

As the Director of Music, you will lead and shape the school’s vibrant music programme, inspiring girls to discover and develop their musical talents. This is a unique opportunity to influence and elevate music education at a high-achieving independent school in North London.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example as an accomplished musician and performer
  • Inspire pupils through joyful and ambitious music-making
  • Champion singing and instrumental performance, helping every pupil find her musical voice
  • Direct choirs, ensembles, and performances with authority and warmth
  • Provide musical leadership for school productions, concerts, and events
  • Collaborate with colleagues, visiting teachers, and peripatetic staff
  • Build strong relationships with parents and communicate effectively with families
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school and its community

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Accomplished musician with strong performance skills, ideally a skilled pianist
  • Confident conductor with experience in leading ensembles and performances
  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple aspects of the music programme
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships
  • Visionary leader with the ability to shape a thriving and inclusive music department

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching or leading in an educational setting
  • Background in music education or performance
  • Experience with school productions and events
  • Knowledge of instrumental and vocal teaching methods
