The Opportunity:

As the Director of Science, you’ll lead and inspire science education across multiple schools, driving excellence in teaching and learning. You’ll support science departments in raising student outcomes and fostering a culture of innovation and achievement in biology, chemistry, and physics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor science departments across multiple schools to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a standardised science curriculum that supports student progress and achievement.
  • Work closely with senior leadership and subject teams to drive continuous improvement in science education.
  • Monitor and assess student performance using whole-trust assessments to identify areas for targeted support.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and professional development among science teachers.
  • Promote a supportive and inspiring environment that encourages student curiosity and critical thinking.
  • Ensure alignment with the school’s educational mission and strategic goals.
  • Support the development of innovative pedagogical approaches in science education.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in leading science departments within a school or multi-academy trust setting.
  • Strong knowledge of biology, chemistry, and physics curricula at all key stages.
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teachers.
  • Experience in driving improvement in student outcomes and attainment in science subjects.
  • Strong understanding of assessment and progress tracking in education.

Preferred

  • Experience with whole-trust or cross-school collaboration in education.
  • Background in curriculum development and implementation.
  • Experience with teacher training and professional development.
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching methods and technologies in science education.
