The Opportunity:
As a DT and Cookery Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting hands-on learning by preparing resources, maintaining equipment, and assisting students during practical lessons. This is an opportunity to make a real impact in a dynamic and supportive educational setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and organise DT and Cookery materials, resources, and equipment for lessons
- Ensure teaching spaces are set up and ready for each session
- Conduct routine checks and maintenance of specialist equipment
- Manage storage areas, conduct stock checks, and maintain accurate records
- Support the setup and maintenance of displays and exhibitions
- Assist teachers during practical lessons and demonstrate safe use of tools and equipment
- Help students complete practical work and develop their skills
- Maintain health and safety standards, including COSHH records and risk assessments
- Provide administrative support, including ordering materials and managing department budgets
- Contribute to whole-school events, meetings, and training sessions
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Practical and organisational skills with the ability to manage resources and equipment effectively
- Experience or interest in Design & Technology and/or Cookery
- Confidence working in a hands-on learning environment
- Ability to work in a busy, supportive school setting
- Willingness to support students and contribute positively to the school community
Preferred
- Experience in a similar role or educational setting
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures and COSHH requirements
- Experience with safeguarding and working with students with complex needs
- Ability to assist with practical assessments and exams
