The Opportunity:

As a DT and Cookery Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting hands-on learning by preparing resources, maintaining equipment, and assisting students during practical lessons. This is an opportunity to make a real impact in a dynamic and supportive educational setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and organise DT and Cookery materials, resources, and equipment for lessons
  • Ensure teaching spaces are set up and ready for each session
  • Conduct routine checks and maintenance of specialist equipment
  • Manage storage areas, conduct stock checks, and maintain accurate records
  • Support the setup and maintenance of displays and exhibitions
  • Assist teachers during practical lessons and demonstrate safe use of tools and equipment
  • Help students complete practical work and develop their skills
  • Maintain health and safety standards, including COSHH records and risk assessments
  • Provide administrative support, including ordering materials and managing department budgets
  • Contribute to whole-school events, meetings, and training sessions

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Practical and organisational skills with the ability to manage resources and equipment effectively
  • Experience or interest in Design & Technology and/or Cookery
  • Confidence working in a hands-on learning environment
  • Ability to work in a busy, supportive school setting
  • Willingness to support students and contribute positively to the school community

Preferred

  • Experience in a similar role or educational setting
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures and COSHH requirements
  • Experience with safeguarding and working with students with complex needs
  • Ability to assist with practical assessments and exams
