The Opportunity:

As a Dyslexia and Dyscalculia Specialist, you will provide targeted support to pupils with specific learning needs, helping them access the curriculum effectively. This role involves working closely with teaching staff and the SEN team to ensure that each pupil receives tailored support that promotes their academic and personal growth. You will play a key role in creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to pupils with dyslexia and dyscalculia, using strategies outlined in Personal Support Plans.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to adapt learning materials and ensure pupils can access the curriculum at an appropriate level.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide regular feedback to the class teacher and SEN team.
  • Support pupils in developing their strengths and interests, promoting a positive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Deliver pastoral support and contribute to the overall well-being of pupils.
  • Work with external agencies and implement EHCP provisions as required.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and maintain strong home/school relationships.
  • Promote the school’s ethos of inclusivity, respect, and academic excellence.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Level 5 SpLD qualification (or currently working towards it).
  • Experience in supporting pupils with SEN, including managing behaviours and meeting individual learning needs.
  • Knowledge of Child Safeguarding and current SEN policies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate pupil progress both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in working with speech and language support strategies.

Preferred

  • Experience in dyscalculia or maths specialism.
  • Experience in developing and implementing Personal Support Plans.
  • Experience in working with outside agencies to deliver EHCP provisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in a school setting with a focus on inclusion and diversity.
