The Opportunity:

As an EAL Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students for whom English is an Additional Language. This is a valuable opportunity to work within a supportive and inclusive school community, while gaining experience and contributing to student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students and teachers in the classroom, providing targeted assistance to EAL learners.
  • Deliver engaging and structured content in small group settings.
  • Assist with translation in meetings or phone calls with parents, particularly in Arabic or Portuguese.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to enhance student learning and progress.
  • Promote an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
  • Support students with special educational needs and disabilities, ensuring they have the tools to succeed.
  • Contribute to school improvement by sharing ideas and providing feedback in a constructive manner.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude, demonstrating flexibility, organisation, and a good sense of humour.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Fluency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Basic knowledge or fluency in Arabic or Portuguese, for translation purposes.
  • Experience working with students for whom English is an Additional Language.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational skills and a flexible approach to work.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in a teaching or educational support role.
  • Completion of a TEFL or School Direct course, or willingness to pursue such qualifications.
  • Experience working with students with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and a commitment to student development and achievement.
