Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Department in managing and developing the PE department to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Promote physical health, fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students.
  • Support staff professional development within the PE department.
  • Organise and manage extracurricular activities including sports teams, competitions, and events.
  • Ensure alignment with the UK National Curriculum for PE and best practices in physical education.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages student participation and achievement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate PE with broader school initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience teaching Physical Education at secondary school level (KS3-5)
  • Strong knowledge of the UK National Curriculum for PE and current best practices in physical education pedagogy
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage resources effectively
  • Ability to motivate both staff and students towards achieving excellence in sport and physical activity

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership or second-in-charge role within a PE department
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment in PE
  • Experience in managing extracurricular sports programs and events
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching practices and student wellbeing
