Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Head of Department in managing and developing the PE department to ensure high standards of teaching and learning.
- Promote physical health, fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students.
- Support staff professional development within the PE department.
- Organise and manage extracurricular activities including sports teams, competitions, and events.
- Ensure alignment with the UK National Curriculum for PE and best practices in physical education.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages student participation and achievement.
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate PE with broader school initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience teaching Physical Education at secondary school level (KS3-5)
- Strong knowledge of the UK National Curriculum for PE and current best practices in physical education pedagogy
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage resources effectively
- Ability to motivate both staff and students towards achieving excellence in sport and physical activity
Preferred
- Experience in a leadership or second-in-charge role within a PE department
- Experience with curriculum development and assessment in PE
- Experience in managing extracurricular sports programs and events
- Knowledge of inclusive teaching practices and student wellbeing
