The Opportunity:

As an Editorial Assistant in Data, Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, you will support the publication of high-quality academic books used by students and researchers worldwide. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the academic publishing process while gaining valuable experience and developing essential editorial and organisational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the peer review of new book proposals and maintain accurate editorial records
  • Assist with the preparation and administration of author and contributor contracts
  • Act as a point of contact for authors, responding to queries and supporting effective communication
  • Support the management of book projects, including preparation of manuscripts for handover to production
  • Maintain accurate administrative, financial and project data across editorial systems
  • Provide wider administrative support to Commissioning Editors and contribute to team objectives
  • Ensure projects progress accurately and on schedule through close collaboration with internal and external teams
  • Demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to tasks while managing a varied administrative workload

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Demonstrable organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and support a wider team
  • Ability to work independently, showing initiative and a proactive approach to tasks
  • High level of attention to detail, with confidence handling basic numerical and financial information

Preferred

  • Degree (or equivalent qualification or experience) in a quantitative subject
  • Previous experience working in a publishing or editorial environment
