The Opportunity:

As an English Teacher Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the learning experiences of young people with special educational needs. You will lead and inspire a team of educators, delivering impactful lessons that foster confidence, creativity, and academic growth. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of English teachers to ensure high-quality instruction and student engagement.
  • Design and deliver innovative, inclusive English lessons tailored to the diverse needs of students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing targeted support and interventions where needed.
  • Work closely with therapists, psychologists, and teaching assistants to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive classroom culture that encourages self-esteem and personal growth.
  • Stay up to date with best practices in special education and share knowledge with the team.
  • Support the school’s mission by contributing to a safe, supportive, and inspiring learning environment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and relevant teaching experience.
  • Experience working with students with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to create and deliver engaging, inclusive lesson plans.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred

  • Experience in a leadership or senior teaching role.
  • Familiarity with the Witherslack Group’s ITAC (Internal Team Around the Child) model.
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment in special education settings.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic and emotional support strategies for students with complex needs.
