Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the science department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a creative and challenging physics curriculum that meets the needs of all students.

  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted support where needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Engage with parents and the wider community to enhance the school’s profile and support student learning.
  • Ensure the department maintains strong links with local businesses, universities, and other educational institutions.
  • Promote the school’s co-curricular activities, including the Physics Society and other science-related clubs.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in physics at all key stages.
  • Proven leadership experience in a school or college setting.
  • Strong classroom practice and ability to deliver high-quality lessons.
  • Experience in developing and managing a departmental curriculum.
  • Commitment to student progress and achievement across all ability levels.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading departmental initiatives and professional development programs.
  • Knowledge of current educational trends and best practices in science education.
  • Experience with curriculum enrichment and extracurricular science activities.
  • Familiarity with sixth form teaching and collaborative working with partner schools.
