The Opportunity:

As an English Teacher in a low-secure, small school setting, you will deliver individualised learning and therapeutic support to young people aged 13–18. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable students through meaningful education and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, tailored English lessons for learners aged 13–18
  • Support young people in achieving qualifications ranging from Entry Level to GCSE
  • Collaborate with education, clinical, and care teams to provide a holistic, trauma-informed approach
  • Create a secure, caring, and challenging environment that encourages progress and resilience
  • Contribute to and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Deliver lessons on the wards as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Differentiate effectively for pupils with a wide range of needs and abilities
  • Promote inclusive education and mental health-informed practice

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) with English specialism
  • Experience working with SEMH, SEND, or within an alternative provision or secure environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional resilience
  • Ability to adapt and differentiate effectively for pupils with diverse needs

Preferred

  • Experience in a specialist mental health or low-secure setting
  • Background in trauma-informed education practices
  • Experience with curriculum development and IEP implementation
