The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced English Teacher with a responsibility for whole school literacy. This role is ideal for someone passionate about English and committed to raising standards across the school. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver a high-quality, knowledge-rich English curriculum across all key stages.
  • Lead and support whole school literacy initiatives to improve student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and drive continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing targeted support where needed.
  • Engage in professional development and contribute to departmental planning and strategy.
  • Support the school’s ethos and values through teaching, leadership, and pastoral care.
  • Mentor and develop early career teachers where appropriate.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives and events that promote student learning and well-being.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A relevant degree from an established university.
  • PGCE/QTS or equivalent qualification.
  • Excellent knowledge of the National Curriculum for KS3, KS4, and KS5.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English, ideally including A level expertise.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and self-reflection.

Preferred

  • Experience in whole school literacy leadership or coordination.
  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL/TEFL).
  • Experience in curriculum development and knowledge-based teaching.
  • Leadership experience or an interest in developing leadership skills.
  • Experience in ITT mentoring or teacher training.
