The Opportunity:
As an English Team Leader, you will play a key role in shaping the vision and direction of the English department. You will support the curriculum team leader in ensuring that the curriculum meets the needs of all students, fostering a love of literature and critical thinking. Key Responsibilities:
- Support the curriculum team leader in setting the strategic direction for the English department.
- Ensure the curriculum is aligned with the needs of students from diverse backgrounds.
- Develop and implement effective teaching and learning strategies that promote student progress.
- Lead and inspire colleagues through a collaborative, asset-based approach to professional development.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum and make data-informed improvements.
- Promote a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement across the department.
- Work closely with other subject leaders to ensure consistency and coherence in teaching practices.
- Represent the English department in school-wide meetings and initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a school or college setting.
- Strong track record in improving student outcomes, particularly for disadvantaged pupils.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and management skills.
- Experience in curriculum planning, sequencing, and implementation.
- In-depth knowledge of current pedagogical practices and evidence-informed teaching strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and lead colleagues to improve their practice.
Preferred
- Experience in leading a department or team in a school setting.
- Familiarity with inclusive education and strategies to support diverse student populations.
- Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language or supporting bilingual students.
- Strong record of collaboration with primary schools or external educational institutions.
