The Opportunity:

We are seeking an Assistant Headteacher: Strategic SENDCO and Inclusive Practice Lead to join our dynamic SEND Team and lead inclusive practice across the school. This is a rare opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students with additional needs and to drive forward a shared vision of inclusion and excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the school’s SEND provision, ensuring it is aligned with current legislation and best practice.
  • Manage and support the SEND team, including specialist teachers and support staff.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, families, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision, using data to inform decision-making.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve inclusion across the school.
  • Provide guidance and training to staff on SEND-related issues and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Represent the school in external forums and collaborate with the local authority on joint initiatives.
  • Ensure that all students with additional needs are supported to achieve their full potential academically and personally.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Significant experience of SEND leadership within a secondary setting.
  • A secure and up-to-date understanding of SEND legislation and evidence-informed best practice.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to lead with clarity and purpose.
  • Experience in building strong, collaborative relationships with staff, families, and external agencies.
  • A commitment to inclusion as a shared responsibility and a core value of the school.

Preferred

  • Experience of leading the development of specialist provisions such as ASC or Cognition & Learning Units.
  • Experience with inclusive practice across the curriculum and in pastoral care.
  • Experience of working with students with a range of additional needs, including those with hearing impairments.
  • Experience of working within a large, high-achieving comprehensive school.
