Facilities Manager needed at a special school with a focus on safety, compliance and sustainability.

The Opportunity:

As a Facilities Manager, you will lead the safe, compliant and efficient operation of a multi-site school estate. This role is central to maintaining learning environments that support outstanding teaching and learning. You will ensure that all facilities meet the highest standards of safety, sustainability and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage estates operations across multiple sites.
  • Oversee statutory compliance including fire safety, water hygiene, asbestos, gas and electrical safety.
  • Ensure PFI exit readiness with complete compliance documentation and asset data.
  • Develop and implement strategic maintenance, lifecycle works and capital project plans.
  • Manage planned and reactive maintenance, security, grounds and cleaning services.
  • Line-manage Premises Managers and cleaning teams, fostering a positive and solution-focused culture.
  • Maintain robust emergency response and out-of-hours systems.
  • Coordinate with contractors and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Keep accurate records and reporting for leadership and governors.
  • Promote sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental responsibility across the estate.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in facilities management, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory compliance, health and safety, and PFI processes.
  • Experience managing teams and leading operational strategies.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and sustainability.

Preferred

  • Experience with multi-site estate management.
  • Familiarity with educational environments and the needs of special schools.
  • Experience with lifecycle management and capital project planning.
  • Knowledge of sustainability initiatives and environmental best practices.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
