The Opportunity:

A Food Technician is needed to support practical food lessons and maintain a high standard of hygiene and safety in the Food & Nutrition department. This role is ideal for someone passionate about food preparation and working with young people in a dynamic, well-resourced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Checking and receiving student ingredients before the start of the school day
  • Organising dishes and leftover ingredients for collection at the end of the day
  • Supporting practical lessons by demonstrating equipment and techniques
  • Clearing and resetting practical rooms to ensure they are ready for use
  • Managing stock control, ordering ingredients, and maintaining equipment
  • Accurately weighing and measuring ingredients for lessons
  • Performing routine safety checks, ensuring safe storage, and maintaining equipment
  • Ensuring high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and food allergen control
  • Following risk assessments, safety systems, and COSHH procedures
  • Reporting safeguarding and safety concerns promptly
  • Assisting with administration tasks as required

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Enthusiasm for food preparation and practical teaching
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work flexibly and use initiative
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to hygiene and safety
  • Experience working with young people in a school setting
  • Willingness to learn and be trained in the role

Preferred

  • Experience with first aid or willingness to complete training
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
  • Experience with stock control and inventory management

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Term-time only working hours with alternating weekly schedules
  • Competitive salary range of £16,157 - £16,836
