The Opportunity:

As a Geography Lead Practitioner, you will play a pivotal role in driving academic excellence and supporting student achievement across all key stages. You will lead the Geography Department, ensuring a high-quality, engaging curriculum that inspires students and fosters their individual potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Geography curriculum to ensure it is broad, balanced, and relevant to all students.
  • Monitor and support student progress as a teacher, form tutor, and department leader.
  • Provide expert guidance and mentorship to trainee teachers within the department.
  • Support and implement teaching and learning initiatives to improve classroom practice and student outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to raise standards and maximise student attainment in Geography.
  • Disseminate best practice in teaching and learning across the academy.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the Geography Department.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in Geography at key stages 3 and 4.
  • Proven leadership experience within a school or college setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a commitment to high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Experience in mentoring and supporting trainee teachers.
  • Ability to monitor and assess student progress effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading curriculum development or departmental improvement projects.
  • Familiarity with teaching Geography at A Level or equivalent.
  • Experience in using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Experience in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
