The Opportunity:

Join a school committed to excellence as a Geography Teacher Trainee. This role offers the chance to develop into a qualified teacher through a one-year initial teacher training course, with the potential for permanent employment upon successful completion. The trainee will be supported by an experienced mentor and will play a meaningful role in the school’s academic and co-curricular life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of Geography lessons to students aged 11-16
  • Develop and implement engaging and effective teaching strategies
  • Work closely with an experienced mentor to enhance teaching and classroom management skills
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum
  • Participate in co-curricular activities and school events
  • Monitor and assess student progress through formative and summative assessments
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support the school’s vision of 'Excellence for All'
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on student performance and progress

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A strong undergraduate degree in Geography or a related subject
  • Commitment to the school’s vision of 'Excellence for All'
  • Willingness to take on a small timetable that increases over time
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students to develop a passion for Geography
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Preferred

  • Experience in teaching or education-related roles
  • Previous involvement in co-curricular or extracurricular activities
  • Experience with initial teacher training or relevant professional development
  • Familiarity with the National Curriculum and Geography teaching standards
