The Opportunity:
As a Groundsperson, you will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the institution’s extensive outdoor estate, including sports facilities and ornamental gardens. This role is ideal for someone passionate about turf management and committed to maintaining safe, compliant, and visually appealing grounds for students and visitors alike.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain lawns, hedges, trees, and planted areas through seasonal upkeep, including mowing, strimming, pruning, weeding, and leaf clearance.
- Prepare and maintain sports pitches and amenity areas to the highest standards.
- Support essential renovation work, such as aeration, scarification, overseeding, and turf repairs.
- Ensure the upkeep of pathways, hard landscaping, and outdoor furniture to maintain a safe and presentable campus.
- Assist with basic tree maintenance and monitor tree health in accordance with the institution’s Tree Management Plan.
- Operate grounds machinery and hand tools safely, following health and safety policies and training guidelines.
- Proactively report hazards, defects, and incidents to ensure compliance and safety of playing surfaces.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Practical experience in grounds maintenance and sports turf environments.
- Knowledge of plants and turf management, combined with awareness of Health and Safety requirements.
- Good overall fitness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- A grounds maintenance qualification (minimum NVQ Level 2 or equivalent).
- A full driving licence.
Preferred
- PA1 and PA6 pesticide application certificates.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive salary of £27,315.00 per annum.
- Full-time role with 40 hours per week, including flexibility for sporting fixtures and events.
- Weekend and occasional evening work on a rota-based system.
