The Opportunity:

A school is seeking a Multi-Skilled Carpenter to join its Works Department and contribute to the maintenance and improvement of a diverse range of buildings, from historic chapels to modern facilities. This role requires a high level of skill and adaptability across multiple trades.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out carpentry work in the maintenance, improvement, and alteration of the school’s varied building stock.
  • Perform reactive maintenance duties and assist with refurbishment projects.
  • Undertake repairs to doors, windows, flooring, kitchens, and mouldings.
  • Complete plastering works, such as patch repairs or skimming.
  • Plumb in kitchen appliances and bathroom suites, and carry out small heating repairs.
  • Perform repointing and small bricklaying tasks.
  • Tile kitchens and bathrooms with ceramic tiling.
  • Work under all weather conditions and at heights, as required.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • An experienced, competent carpenter & joiner with an eye for detail.
  • Ability to perform carpentry duties and demonstrate proficiency in at least two additional trade skills to an intermediate level.
  • Experience working in historic buildings.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and within a team.

Preferred

  • Particular experience with Listed buildings and traditional skills.
  • Experience with plumbing, plastering, bricklaying, and tiling.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary of £35,500 (gross) per annum, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • Full-time hours with a standard Monday to Friday schedule.
  • Occasional out of hours emergency call-outs paid at overtime rate.
