The Opportunity:

As the Head of Art, you will lead the art department and play a vital role in shaping the creative and cultural development of students. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and visionary educator to make a lasting impact on student learning and school life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the art department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning experiences for all students.
  • Develop and implement a dynamic and inclusive art curriculum that inspires creativity and supports student achievement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to integrate art into cross-curricular projects and initiatives.
  • Support and mentor art teachers, providing professional development and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Promote and manage extracurricular art activities, including clubs, exhibitions, and community engagement events.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to contribute to school-wide strategic planning and development.
  • Ensure the department meets all statutory and regulatory requirements, including safeguarding and equal opportunities.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, using data to inform teaching and support individual learning needs.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a school or educational setting.
  • Strong subject knowledge and teaching experience in art and design.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills with a track record of successful departmental development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to the school’s values and ethos, including a focus on student well-being and academic excellence.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and innovation.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in art education.
  • Experience in managing large departments and leading staff development programs.
  • Familiarity with Ofsted standards and school improvement processes.
  • Experience in leading extracurricular and enrichment programs in the arts.
