The Opportunity:
As Head of Art, you will lead the Art department and drive innovation in teaching and learning. This role offers the chance to shape a dynamic curriculum and support colleagues in delivering outstanding outcomes for students at KS3–KS5.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership for the Art department across KS3–KS5.
- Design and deliver a high-quality Art curriculum aligned with examination specifications.
- Raise standards of attainment through effective teaching, assessment, and intervention.
- Use assessment data to monitor progress and drive departmental improvement.
- Promote literacy, reading, and oracy through the Art curriculum.
- Lead and develop teaching within the department, supporting colleagues to improve practice.
- Provide enrichment opportunities for Art inside and outside of the classroom.
- Contribute to whole-school improvement priorities as part of the wider middle leadership team.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a good honours degree in Art or a related subject.
- Strong subject knowledge and a commitment to high-quality outcomes for all students.
- Ability to lead a department effectively and drive improvement.
- Commitment to inclusion and ensuring all students reach their full potential.
Preferred
- Experience in middle leadership or as an Early Career Teacher (ECT) with a desire to develop into a subject leader.
- Experience with curriculum design and assessment strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate colleagues and students.
