The Opportunity:

As Head of Spanish, you will lead and inspire a team to deliver an outstanding curriculum that drives student achievement and fosters a love of language learning from KS3 to KS5. This role offers the chance to shape educational excellence and make a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Spanish department across KS3–KS5.
  • Design and deliver a high-quality Spanish curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
  • Raise standards of attainment and progress through effective teaching, assessment, and intervention strategies.
  • Use assessment data to monitor progress and drive continuous improvement within the department.
  • Promote literacy, reading, and oracy through the Spanish curriculum and wider school initiatives.
  • Provide enrichment opportunities for students to engage with Spanish outside of the classroom.
  • Inspire and motivate colleagues, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to raising standards and student success.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a good honours degree in Spanish or a related subject.
  • Proven experience in teaching Spanish at KS3 and KS5 levels.
  • Experience in leading a department or team, with a track record of driving improvement and raising standards.
  • Strong subject knowledge and evidence of excellent student outcomes.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate colleagues and students.

Preferred

  • Experience with curriculum design and innovation in language teaching.
  • Experience in leading professional development for teachers.
  • Experience with assessment and data-driven decision making.
  • Experience in promoting literacy and oracy through the curriculum.
