The Opportunity:

As Head of Biology, you will lead a team of ten teachers and play a key role in shaping a dynamic and impactful learning experience for students across all year groups. This is an opportunity to inspire students and support academic excellence in a school known for its outstanding results and pastoral care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Biology department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all year groups.
  • Develop and implement curriculum strategies aligned with A Level, IB, and other relevant qualifications.
  • Support and mentor departmental staff, fostering a culture of professional growth and collaboration.
  • Promote and maintain the school's values, including curiosity, academic excellence, and inclusion.
  • Contribute to the co-curricular programme, enriching student experiences beyond the classroom.
  • Ensure the effective delivery of pastoral care and support for all students.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of syllabus requirements and support continuous curriculum development.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a middle leadership role, with a strong commitment to academic excellence.
  • Excellent subject knowledge in Biology and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Strong pastoral instincts and the ability to provide excellent support for students.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion within the school community.

Preferred

  • Prior experience in middle leadership roles within a school setting.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Involvement in co-curricular activities or extracurricular programmes.
