The Opportunity:

As the Head of Boarding House Senior Girls, you will lead and inspire a dynamic group of young musicians, creating a safe, supportive, and structured environment that nurtures their growth and development. This role is central to the school’s mission of fostering independence, confidence, and a strong sense of community within a specialist music education setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the day-to-day life of the Senior Girls’ Boarding House, ensuring a supportive and structured environment for students.
  • Establish a culture of clarity, consistency, and strong relationships to foster student independence and responsibility.
  • Provide guidance to students in managing the demands of a specialist music education, including practice, performance, and academic balance.
  • Work closely with the Director of Boarding and the wider pastoral team to ensure high standards of care and safeguarding.
  • Support students in developing resilience, self-awareness, and a sense of belonging within the boarding community.
  • Maintain and promote the school’s commitment to safeguarding and compliance with National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and academic colleagues to support student well-being and development.
  • Contribute to the implementation of boarding policies and ensure consistency in pastoral care and behaviour expectations.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a boarding environment, with a strong understanding of pastoral care and student development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team within a residential setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students and staff.
  • Experience in safeguarding and a commitment to student welfare.
  • Confidence in making professional judgements and maintaining high standards of care and discipline.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in a specialist music education setting or with young musicians.
  • Familiarity with the academic and performance demands of a music-focused curriculum.
  • Experience in managing a large boarding community with a high level of student engagement.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding policies and best practices in boarding schools.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range of £34,963 – £40,362 per annum.
