The Opportunity:

As Head of Physical Education, you will lead a vibrant and inclusive sports programme, ensuring all students from early years to A Level have the opportunity to engage with and excel in physical education. This is a key role for a passionate and driven professional who wants to make a meaningful impact through sport and physical education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development and delivery of a broad and inclusive curricular and co-curricular sports programme.
  • Manage and support the PE Department, including teachers, coaches, and graduate assistants.
  • Ensure the effective organisation and delivery of major school sports and events, including fixtures, clubs, competitions, and trips.
  • Lead the teaching and learning of PE across the school, from ages 3 to 18, including GCSE and A Level Physical Education.
  • Ensure schemes of work are current, lessons are well planned and engaging, and assessment and feedback support strong outcomes.
  • Manage the day-to-day running of the department, including timetabling, budgeting, resource management, and liaison with facilities staff.
  • Uphold health and safety, safeguarding, and risk assessment procedures consistently.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a PE or sports department.
  • Strong practical presence and experience in managing sports fixtures and events.
  • Experience in teaching and leading PE at all levels, including GCSE and A Level.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and promoting student wellbeing through sport.

Preferred

  • Experience in independent school environments.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and assessment in PE.
  • Experience with staff mentoring and professional development.
  • Familiarity with health and safety procedures in sports settings.
