The Opportunity:
As Head of Physical Education, you will lead a vibrant and inclusive sports programme, ensuring all students from early years to A Level have the opportunity to engage with and excel in physical education. This is a key role for a passionate and driven professional who wants to make a meaningful impact through sport and physical education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development and delivery of a broad and inclusive curricular and co-curricular sports programme.
- Manage and support the PE Department, including teachers, coaches, and graduate assistants.
- Ensure the effective organisation and delivery of major school sports and events, including fixtures, clubs, competitions, and trips.
- Lead the teaching and learning of PE across the school, from ages 3 to 18, including GCSE and A Level Physical Education.
- Ensure schemes of work are current, lessons are well planned and engaging, and assessment and feedback support strong outcomes.
- Manage the day-to-day running of the department, including timetabling, budgeting, resource management, and liaison with facilities staff.
- Uphold health and safety, safeguarding, and risk assessment procedures consistently.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven leadership experience in a PE or sports department.
- Strong practical presence and experience in managing sports fixtures and events.
- Experience in teaching and leading PE at all levels, including GCSE and A Level.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Commitment to inclusive education and promoting student wellbeing through sport.
Preferred
- Experience in independent school environments.
- Knowledge of curriculum development and assessment in PE.
- Experience with staff mentoring and professional development.
- Familiarity with health and safety procedures in sports settings.
