The Opportunity:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head of Chemistry to lead and inspire in a high-performing Science department. This role combines teaching across KS3–KS5 with strategic leadership responsibilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of Chemistry within the school and inspiring the next generation of scientists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach Chemistry at IGCSE and A Level and contribute to KS3 Science across all three disciplines
  • Design and deliver engaging, challenging lessons that promote deep understanding and intellectual curiosity
  • Set and mark assessments, monitor progress and provide clear, constructive feedback
  • Prepare pupils thoroughly for internal and external examinations
  • Collaborate with colleagues and technicians to ensure high-quality, safe practical work
  • Contribute to departmental development, enrichment, and the wider life of the school
  • Lead curriculum development, assessment practice, and quality assurance in Chemistry
  • Support and coach Chemistry teachers, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence
  • Play a key role in recruitment, induction, and succession planning
  • Oversee enrichment activities, competitions, trips, and the promotion of the subject

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A strong academic background with a degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline
  • Secure subject knowledge at IGCSE and A Level
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills
  • A collaborative, reflective approach and commitment to professional learning
  • A clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and a strong commitment to pupil wellbeing

Preferred

  • Experience with Teaching English as a Second Language
  • Leadership experience in a school or educational setting
  • Experience in curriculum development and strategic planning
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring colleagues
