Summary:

Head of Chemistry required for September 2026. Lead Science department with passion and expertise.

The Opportunity:

As Head of Chemistry, you will lead the Science department, inspiring students in KS3 and KS4 while driving curriculum development and raising standards. This is a key leadership role with a TLR for a candidate capable of making a significant impact on academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Science department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a dynamic and engaging Chemistry curriculum.
  • Inspire and motivate students to achieve their full potential in Science.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to drive continuous improvement and innovation in teaching methods.
  • Support and mentor junior staff within the department.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing targeted interventions where needed.
  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to align departmental goals with school objectives.
  • Promote a culture of respect, resilience, and academic excellence across the Science department.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Relevant undergraduate degree in Chemistry or a related subject.
  • Proven experience in teaching Chemistry at KS3 and KS4.
  • Strong subject knowledge and passion for Science education.
  • Leadership experience within a school or educational setting.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and leading a department.
  • Experience with driving academic improvement and raising standards.
  • Familiarity with Ofsted standards and best practices in education.
  • Experience with pastoral care and student support systems.
