The Opportunity:
As the Head of Chemistry, you will lead a strong and passionate department, shaping the future of science education within a school known for its innovative and high-achieving academic environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a thriving Chemistry department of eight specialist teachers, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement an ambitious and coherent curriculum that promotes practical work and intellectual curiosity.
- Champion Health & Safety in the laboratory and ensure all practical work is conducted to the highest standards.
- Support and enhance super-curricular opportunities, including participation in competitions and outreach programs.
- Inspire and motivate students and colleagues across all age groups, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
- Collaborate with the wider Science Faculty to ensure a strong and cohesive approach to science education.
- Contribute to the broader life of the school, including pastoral and co-curricular activities.
- Ensure effective assessment, feedback, and pupil outcomes across all levels of the curriculum.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Excellent subject knowledge in Chemistry and a proven track record in teaching and leading a science department.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate colleagues and students.
- Experience in curriculum development and the delivery of high-quality science education.
- Demonstrated ability in managing and developing a team of teachers and support staff.
- Commitment to Health & Safety standards in the laboratory environment.
- Experience in leading super-curricular initiatives and promoting Chemistry as an academic discipline.
Preferred
- Experience in a co-educational or boarding school environment.
- Familiarity with Edexcel IGCSE, A Level, and IB Diploma curricula.
- Strong record of student achievement and engagement in science subjects.
- Experience in leading or participating in national or international science competitions.
- Ability to contribute to the wider life of the school through pastoral or co-curricular involvement.
