The Opportunity:
As the Head of English, you will lead a highly successful department, ensuring academic excellence and fostering a love of literature and language. This role is ideal for an experienced educator who can provide leadership during a period of maternity cover.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and inspire a high-performing English department across all year groups.
- Deliver and develop a rigorous and engaging curriculum aligned with IGCSE, A Level, and IB requirements.
- Ensure consistency in teaching, assessment, and moderation practices.
- Support and mentor colleagues to maintain and elevate teaching standards.
- Foster a culture of intellectual curiosity and critical thinking among pupils.
- Contribute to the co-curricular and pastoral life of the school.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure a cohesive academic experience for students.
- Provide clear leadership and direction during a period of transition.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven leadership experience in a school setting, preferably as a Head of Department.
- Strong subject knowledge in English, with experience in teaching across all key stages.
- Excellent classroom management and teaching skills.
- Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
- Ability to manage large year groups and maintain high academic standards.
- Commitment to the school’s values and ethos.
Preferred
- Experience in a coeducational or boarding school environment.
- Familiarity with the IGCSE, A Level, and IB curricula.
- Experience in leading a department through periods of transition or change.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Passion for co-curricular and pastoral activities.
