As Head of Chemistry, you will lead and inspire a team of passionate educators, shaping the future of science education. This role offers the chance to influence curriculum development, enhance student achievement, and drive innovation in teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Chemistry department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Develop and implement a dynamic and engaging curriculum for all key stages.
- Monitor and support student progress, with a focus on achieving outstanding results.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the Science Faculty to enhance interdisciplinary learning.
- Provide mentorship and professional development for teaching staff.
- Represent the department at staff meetings, parent evenings, and external events.
- Stay up to date with developments in Chemistry education and incorporate best practices into teaching.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment for all students.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Proven experience in teaching A Level Chemistry with a strong track record of student achievement.
- Experience in middle leadership, ideally as a Head of Department.
- Strong organisational and leadership skills.
- Passion for Chemistry and the ability to inspire students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a teaching load of 28 periods per week, with flexibility for remote working.
Preferred
- Experience in teaching a second science subject at GCSE level.
- Experience in leading a Science Faculty.
- Familiarity with the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) and its educational values.
- Experience in curriculum development and innovation in science education.
