The Opportunity:

As a Head of Year with PE, you will play a key role in supporting student achievement, behaviour, and wellbeing. This is a leadership position that combines pastoral care with a focus on physical education, making a real impact on student outcomes and school culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a culture of high standards in behaviour, achievement, and student engagement across a year group.
  • Lead and manage a team of Form Tutors to ensure the effective delivery of the pastoral and wellbeing programme.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the PDC curriculum and support tutor development.
  • Promote student progress and raise standards through targeted interventions and support.
  • Work closely with the Academy Behaviour and Safeguarding Teams to ensure consistent application of policies.
  • Monitor student attendance and take appropriate action, including home visits and liaison with external agencies.
  • Support the development of positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to build a cohesive school community.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification
  • Extensive teaching experience with a proven record of outstanding teaching practice
  • Experience in managing a team and leading pastoral initiatives
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in implementing strategies to raise student achievement
  • Commitment to student wellbeing and safeguarding

Preferred

  • Experience in physical education or sports leadership
  • Experience in managing challenging behaviour and attendance issues
  • Leadership experience in a school or educational setting
  • Experience in developing and delivering staff training programmes
