The Opportunity:

As Head of Classics, you will lead a dynamic and well-established department, shaping the curriculum and inspiring students in the study of Latin and Greek. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a thriving Classics department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
  • Develop and implement a curriculum that fosters a deep appreciation of classical literature, history, and culture.
  • Supervise and support a team of teachers, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities.
  • Organise and oversee co-curricular activities, including overseas trips and enrichment programs.
  • Maintain strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, promoting a culture of excellence and enthusiasm for Classics.
  • Ensure effective use of departmental resources and facilities to enhance student learning experiences.
  • Stay up to date with developments in Classics education and incorporate innovative teaching methods.
  • Contribute to the broader academic and pastoral life of the school.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with a strong background in Classics, including Latin and Greek.
  • Proven experience in teaching Classics at GCSE and A Level.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, either in departmental leadership or through significant contributions to team collaboration.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Passion for Classics and a commitment to inspiring students.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading or contributing to co-curricular activities in Classics.
  • Experience with curriculum development and innovation in teaching methods.
  • Familiarity with overseas educational trips and enrichment programs.
  • Strong understanding of the role of Classics in a modern, inclusive educational setting.
