The Opportunity:

As the Head of Geography, you will lead a dynamic and innovative department, shaping a knowledge-rich curriculum that inspires curiosity and critical thinking. This role offers the chance to influence student learning and drive excellence across the school, with additional leadership responsibilities within the senior team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Geography department to deliver an outstanding, knowledge-rich curriculum.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement effective teaching strategies and assessments.
  • Monitor student progress and ensure sustained academic improvement across all ability levels.
  • Support and mentor Geography teachers to enhance subject knowledge and teaching practice.
  • Contribute to the development of the school’s academic and pastoral systems.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and share best practices with the wider staff team.
  • Represent the department in senior leadership meetings and contribute to whole-school initiatives.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and achievement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A good degree and Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Geography and understanding of the National Curriculum.
  • Experience in leading and managing a department.
  • Proven ability to inspire and motivate students of all abilities.
  • Commitment to high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • A reflective approach to professional development and a drive for continuous improvement.

Preferred

  • Experience in school leadership or senior management roles.
  • Familiarity with curriculum design and pedagogical innovation.
  • Experience in leading whole-school initiatives or cross-departmental projects.
  • Knowledge of Digital Technologies or experience with T-levels.
