Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the Classics department, ensuring a high-quality curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
- Teach Latin at all levels, from beginners to scholarship standard, and support the study of Greek where appropriate.
- Foster a love of classical languages and cultures through engaging and innovative teaching methods.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the academic and personal development of students.
- Promote the value of Classics within the school and wider community.
- Ensure that teaching practices align with the school’s ethos and values, including a commitment to inclusion and diversity.
- Support the professional development of department members and contribute to staff training initiatives.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school through involvement in co-curricular activities.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with excellent academic credentials.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (e.g., BA, BEd, PGCE).
- Strong ICT skills.
- Commitment to professional development for self and colleagues.
- Evidence of effective teaching and ability to meet the Teachers’ Standards.
Preferred
- Postgraduate degree in Classics or a related field.
- Experience teaching Greek.
- Experience in a leadership or departmental role.
- Experience working with students with EAL and SEN needs.
- Strong public speaking and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and inspire colleagues and students.
