The Opportunity:

As the Head of Science Department, you will lead and inspire a team of science teachers, shaping the curriculum for students from Year 7 to Year 13. This role offers the chance to drive academic excellence and support staff development, making a meaningful impact on student achievement and departmental growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Science department, ensuring a high-quality, coherent curriculum.
  • Inspire and support colleagues through coaching, mentoring, and modelling best practice.
  • Develop and enhance subject knowledge and pedagogy across all year groups.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring consistent improvement and high standards.
  • Collaborate with other departments to promote a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the implementation of high-quality resources and teaching strategies.
  • Represent the department at senior leadership meetings and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding and welfare policies, promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with relevant subject expertise in Science.
  • Proven experience in a middle leadership role within a school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of Science curriculum and pedagogy at all key stages.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a department or team.
  • Familiarity with Catholic ethos and values.
  • Experience in developing and delivering CPD programs.
  • Strong track record in improving student outcomes and attainment.
