Head of Design and Technology required at a leading UK independent school.

The Opportunity:

The Head of Design and Technology will lead a dynamic department and inspire young learners across Years 7 to 13. This role is ideal for a passionate and creative professional looking to make a lasting impact in a highly regarded educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Design and Technology department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Deliver a curriculum that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and confidence in students.
  • Develop and implement the new A Level Design and Technology course from September 2026.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and enhance departmental resources.
  • Support student enrichment and extension opportunities within the subject.
  • Promote the values and ethos of the school through teaching and leadership.
  • Ensure the department maintains outstanding academic results and student engagement.
  • Work closely with support staff to maintain excellent workshop and prep room facilities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • A well-qualified graduate with a degree in Design and Technology or a related subject, preferably with a PGCE.
  • Excellent subject knowledge and a passion for Design and Technology.
  • Experience teaching Design and Technology to students across KS3, GCSE, and A Level.
  • Strong leadership and team-working abilities.
  • Commitment to the welfare and safeguarding of students and staff.
  • A dedication to diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism in the school community.

Preferred

  • Experience with AQA specifications for GCSE and A Level Design and Technology.
  • Background in engineering, product design, or construction.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering high academic results and student engagement.
  • Involvement in co-curricular activities and school life.
