The Opportunity:

As the Head of Drama, you will lead a dynamic and celebrated department, inspiring students through innovative and engaging drama-based learning. This role offers the chance to shape the creative and academic experience of pupils across all age groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a thriving drama department with a strong focus on performance and curriculum integration.
  • Deliver high-quality drama lessons and co-curricular activities that engage and inspire students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to embed drama-based strategies across the school to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Support and mentor drama students, encouraging their personal and academic growth.
  • Organize and direct major productions, ensuring a high standard of performance and participation.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including teaching in other subject areas when required.
  • Promote the school’s ethos and values through drama and extracurricular activities.
  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to align drama initiatives with school-wide objectives.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in a drama department within an educational setting.
  • Strong teaching experience in drama at all key stages.
  • Excellent knowledge of drama techniques and pedagogical approaches.
  • Passion for performing arts and a commitment to student engagement and development.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to cross-curricular initiatives.

Preferred

  • Experience in directing large-scale productions with live orchestras and large casts.
  • Familiarity with the St Michael’s Learning Behaviours and curriculum framework.
  • Experience in working within a non-selective, inclusive educational environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to act as an ambassador for the school.
