The Opportunity:
As Head of Early Years Foundation Stage, you will lead and develop a vital part of the school, shaping the early learning experiences of children through high-quality, child-centred pedagogy. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the Early Years Foundation Stage team, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
- Monitor and assess the quality of teaching, learning, and child development across the EYFS.
- Oversee the transition into Key Stage 1 and ensure smooth progression for all pupils.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with parents and families.
- Contribute to whole-school priorities and support continuous improvement.
- Use observation and assessment to shape responsive and meaningful provision.
- Coach and support colleagues to maintain consistency of practice.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified Teacher Status and a good degree (or equivalent).
- Minimum 6 years of EYFS teaching experience with a secure understanding of the statutory framework.
- Strong pedagogical knowledge rooted in play, exploration, and communication.
- Experience in leading and developing an EYFS team with a focus on professional growth.
- Skilled in monitoring teaching, learning, and assessment, including the use of EYFS Profile data.
- Ability to build strong, professional relationships with parents.
- Commitment to safeguarding and maintaining a safe, consistent environment for children.
Preferred
- Experience of teaching in Key Stage 1.
- Experience in presenting to governors or contributing to strategic reporting.
- Further professional qualifications such as NPQ or MA, or leadership experience in the independent sector.
