The Opportunity:

As Head of Early Years Foundation Stage, you will lead and develop a vital part of the school, shaping the early learning experiences of children through high-quality, child-centred pedagogy. This role offers the chance to make a lasting impact on young learners and contribute to a forward-thinking senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Early Years Foundation Stage team, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Monitor and assess the quality of teaching, learning, and child development across the EYFS.
  • Oversee the transition into Key Stage 1 and ensure smooth progression for all pupils.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with parents and families.
  • Contribute to whole-school priorities and support continuous improvement.
  • Use observation and assessment to shape responsive and meaningful provision.
  • Coach and support colleagues to maintain consistency of practice.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status and a good degree (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 6 years of EYFS teaching experience with a secure understanding of the statutory framework.
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge rooted in play, exploration, and communication.
  • Experience in leading and developing an EYFS team with a focus on professional growth.
  • Skilled in monitoring teaching, learning, and assessment, including the use of EYFS Profile data.
  • Ability to build strong, professional relationships with parents.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and maintaining a safe, consistent environment for children.

Preferred

  • Experience of teaching in Key Stage 1.
  • Experience in presenting to governors or contributing to strategic reporting.
  • Further professional qualifications such as NPQ or MA, or leadership experience in the independent sector.
