The Opportunity:
As the Head of English and EAL, you will lead the development and delivery of the Cambridge curriculum in English and EAL, ensuring students are challenged, supported, and inspired to achieve their full potential. This role is central to shaping the academic and linguistic success of students across all levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction for English and EAL provision across the school.
- Lead, manage, and develop a team of staff in English and EAL, including coaching, appraisal, and professional development.
- Design and oversee a coherent English curriculum up to IGCSE and A Level.
- Develop and maintain a structured and effective EAL provision with clear pathways for entry, support, and exit.
- Ensure high standards of teaching and learning, modelling excellent classroom practice.
- Monitor pupil progress and use data to drive intervention and raise attainment.
- Lead on EAL assessment, tracking, and reporting of English language proficiency.
- Promote whole-school literacy, including reading, writing, and oracy.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- A degree in English or a related subject, along with substantial teaching experience in English and/or EAL.
- Experience teaching English at IGCSE and/or A Level (Cambridge curriculum highly desirable).
- Experience of leadership or curriculum responsibility within English and/or EAL.
- Strong subject knowledge of English language and literature with the ability to inspire a love of reading and writing.
- A strong understanding of EAL pedagogy and language acquisition.
Preferred
- Excellent data literacy with the ability to use assessment information to improve outcomes.
- Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop staff effectively.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and whole-school improvement.
