The Opportunity:

As the Head of English Department, you will lead a dynamic and experienced faculty, inspiring students to achieve their full potential across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the English faculty, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Inspire and motivate students to achieve their full potential at all key stages.
  • Work collaboratively with senior and middle leadership to drive academic excellence.
  • Implement creative and engaging strategies to enhance student engagement and outcomes.
  • Support the professional development of English staff within the school.
  • Ensure alignment with the school’s teaching and learning framework.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive school culture within the department.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a school setting.
  • Strong track record in improving student outcomes in English at all key stages.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the English curriculum and teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective departmental strategies.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a large or diverse faculty.
  • Familiarity with the ACED teaching and learning framework.
  • Experience with pastoral care and student support systems.
  • Background in sixth form leadership or teaching.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student well-being.
