The Opportunity:

As the Head of History, you will lead and inspire students through engaging and impactful history education. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of history teaching and learning at the school. You will play a key role in driving academic excellence and student achievement across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the History department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all Key Stages.
  • Develop and implement a dynamic curriculum that promotes critical thinking, source analysis, and historical enquiry.
  • Deliver engaging lessons that inspire students and foster a love for history.
  • Support and mentor colleagues, promoting collaboration and continuous professional development.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring that all learners achieve their full potential.
  • Work closely with the senior leadership team to drive school improvement and raise academic standards.
  • Promote the school’s vision and values through inclusive, innovative, and student-centered teaching.
  • Participate in the development of school-wide initiatives that support student wellbeing and academic success.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with a strong background in History.
  • Experience teaching across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • In-depth knowledge of History, including second-order concepts and source analysis.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with experience in leading a subject department.
  • Commitment to inclusion, innovation, and student-centred learning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Knowledge of international and British history contexts.
  • Experience with teaching English as a Second Language.
  • Leadership experience in driving school improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with 21st Century pedagogy and digital learning tools.
