The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Head of English Department to lead and inspire a dynamic team of educators. This role is ideal for a forward-thinking professional who is passionate about English and committed to making a real difference in students' lives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages
- Oversee the development and implementation of the English curriculum at KS3 and beyond
- Support and mentor teaching staff, providing guidance and professional development opportunities
- Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring that all students reach their full potential
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance cross-curricular links and student engagement
- Organize and deliver departmental events, trips, and extracurricular activities
- Ensure compliance with school policies and safeguarding procedures
- Work closely with senior leadership to maintain and improve the school’s academic standards
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified teacher with experience in leading a department
- Proven track record in teaching English at both KS3 and KS4
- Strong leadership and management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection
Preferred
- Experience in curriculum development and assessment
- Familiarity with AQA English Literature and Language courses
- Experience in managing a team of teachers
- Background in Catholic education or values-based teaching
