The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Head of English Department to lead and inspire a dynamic team of educators. This role is ideal for a forward-thinking professional who is passionate about English and committed to making a real difference in students' lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the English curriculum at KS3 and beyond
  • Support and mentor teaching staff, providing guidance and professional development opportunities
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring that all students reach their full potential
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance cross-curricular links and student engagement
  • Organize and deliver departmental events, trips, and extracurricular activities
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and safeguarding procedures
  • Work closely with senior leadership to maintain and improve the school’s academic standards

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified teacher with experience in leading a department
  • Proven track record in teaching English at both KS3 and KS4
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection

Preferred

  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment
  • Familiarity with AQA English Literature and Language courses
  • Experience in managing a team of teachers
  • Background in Catholic education or values-based teaching
