The Opportunity:

As the Head of English Faculty, you will lead a dedicated and accomplished team, driving excellence in teaching and learning across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the English faculty, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages.
  • Analyze student performance data to implement effective intervention strategies and raise attainment.
  • Support and develop staff through mentoring, performance appraisals, and departmental CPD.
  • Manage departmental operations, including budget oversight and resource allocation.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a knowledge-rich curriculum aligned with the school’s vision.
  • Maintain high standards of classroom behaviour and promote a positive learning environment.
  • Encourage and lead extra-curricular activities to enrich the student experience.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure the school’s academic and strategic goals are met.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).
  • Proven leadership experience within an English department, such as Head of Department or Key Stage Coordinator.
  • Experience in analyzing student performance data and implementing effective interventions.
  • Experience in supporting and developing staff, including mentoring Early Career Teachers.
  • Ability to manage departmental operations, including budget and resources.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading departmental CPD and performance appraisals.
  • A clear vision for curriculum design and implementation.
  • Experience with teaching across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based teaching and successful classroom practice.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary within the Outer London Main / Upper Pay Range.
