Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the English department across the secondary phase.
  • Ensure the quality of teaching, learning, and curriculum design in English.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing department focused on academic excellence and a love of language.
  • Champion high standards of literacy and support student success in reading, writing, and oracy.
  • Foster a positive departmental culture that encourages student engagement and improvement.
  • Model outstanding classroom practice and set high expectations for teaching and learning.
  • Support and develop colleagues through coaching and professional growth.
  • Use assessment and data to inform teaching and drive continual improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Strong subject knowledge in English and a passion for teaching.
  • Proven experience in leading a department and delivering strategic direction.
  • Commitment to promoting high standards of literacy and academic excellence.
  • Ability to use data and evidence to shape teaching and improve outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience in curriculum design and student assessment.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading a large or high-performing department.
  • Background in teaching English at secondary level.
  • Experience in driving school-wide initiatives related to literacy.
