The Opportunity:

As Head of English, you will lead a dynamic department, shaping curriculum innovation and driving outstanding outcomes for students aged 11–18. This is a pivotal role in a school that values leadership, professional growth, and the power of education to transform lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a committed team of English teachers to deliver high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Ensure consistent standards, continuous improvement, and the use of data to identify and address areas for development.
  • Implement targeted strategies to raise achievement across all ability levels, including students with SEND and high prior attainment.
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement and strategic planning alongside senior leaders.
  • Manage staff development, performance, and line management responsibilities.
  • Oversee curriculum resourcing, budget allocation, and assessment strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral teams and parents to support student progress and well-being.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Proven experience as a Head of Department or equivalent leadership role in English.
  • Strong track record in raising attainment and driving academic outcomes.
  • Expertise in curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment.
  • Experience in managing and developing staff, including performance management.
  • Ability to use data effectively to inform decision-making and strategy.

Preferred

  • Experience in leading curriculum innovation and professional development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) or similar frameworks.
  • Experience in a coaching school or similar environment.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
