The Opportunity:
A Head of English is needed to lead and inspire a faculty, driving forward teaching quality, curriculum development, and student outcomes. This role offers the chance to shape the vision and culture of the English department, aligning with the school’s mission and ethos.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership to the English faculty, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and high standards.
- Lead curriculum development, ensuring it meets the needs of all learners and supports academic success.
- Conduct reviews of curriculum impact through assessments and examinations to drive continuous improvement.
- Oversee staff professional development and appraisal, fostering a culture of collaboration and growth.
- Monitor teaching quality and student progress, implementing strategies to close learning gaps.
- Promote literacy across the curriculum and set ambitious expectations for all students.
- Ensure a positive learning environment with strong behaviour management and effective parental communication.
- Develop and deliver extra-curricular activities that enhance student engagement and learning.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or PGCE.
- Proven experience in teaching English at Key Stages 4 and 5 with a track record of improving student achievement.
- In-depth knowledge of the English curriculum and examination requirements.
- Strong classroom practice and ability to inspire and motivate students.
- Commitment to raising standards and achievement across all student groups.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in using ICT to support teaching and learning.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills with a focus on staff well-being.
Preferred
- Experience in leading a faculty or department.
- Background in curriculum development and assessment.
- Experience with extra-curricular programme development.
- Experience in working with disadvantaged and priority student groups.
