The Opportunity:

As the Head of English (Secondary), you will lead and develop the department to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning. This role is ideal for an experienced and passionate educator who wants to shape the academic direction of a growing school.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the English department to ensure alignment with the National Curriculum for England.
• Develop and monitor the subject curriculum and schemes of work across the secondary school.
• Analyze assessment data to improve teaching, learning, and student attainment.
• Ensure high-quality reporting to parents in line with whole school expectations.
• Select and manage external examination courses for the department.
• Monitor and support the performance of department staff, providing feedback and training where needed.
• Allocate staff timetables effectively to maximize collaboration and resource use.
• Promote a culture of excellence, cooperation, and respect within the department.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in all departmental activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

• Minimum 2 years of full-time teaching experience in the UK or a British Curriculum school.
• Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum for England and current assessment practices.
• Experience using data systems for student tracking, intervention, and reporting.
• Commitment to outstanding teaching and learning practices.
• Ability to build strong partnerships with parents and collaborate on whole school initiatives.

Preferred

• Experience in curriculum leadership or department management.
• Background in English language acquisition or early literacy development.
• Experience with pastoral care and student support.
