The Opportunity:

As the Head of French, you will lead a dynamic and academically rigorous subject that plays a central role in promoting linguistic confidence and global awareness. This is an opportunity to shape a curriculum that is both intellectually challenging and culturally rich, while inspiring pupils to achieve fluency and a deep understanding of French-speaking cultures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the French curriculum across the Senior School, ensuring it is both academically rigorous and culturally engaging.
  • Inspire pupils to achieve fluency, grammatical accuracy, and confidence in communication.
  • Foster a genuine interest in the cultures, histories, and societies of the French-speaking world.
  • Develop and lead enrichment activities, including trips and partnerships that promote authentic language use.
  • Support the delivery of examination courses and contribute to the wider academic life of the school.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain high academic standards and create a supportive learning environment.
  • Promote continuous improvement in teaching and learning practices within the department.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required

  • Excellent classroom practice with a strong subject expertise in French.
  • Experience in leading a department or taking on a leadership role in teaching.
  • A commitment to academic rigour and cultural engagement.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with curriculum development and enrichment activities.
  • Familiarity with teaching French at GCSE and A level.
  • Experience in fostering discussion and promoting global awareness through language learning.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range of £47,344–£63,133, dependent on experience.
